Garden Education
Teaching is one of our favorite ways to grow! At Home Grown Gardens, we believe plant knowledge and ecological literacy should be shared, passed hand to hand, seed to seed. Through gardening, we teach the fundamentals of ecology: how soil, plants, insects, water, and people are all connected within living systems.
We teach hands-on classes at schools of all ages, offer private workshops, and collaborate with non-profits and community partners across Los Angeles. Our programs are always tailored, always thoughtful, and designed to meet people where they are, whether that’s a school garden, a backyard, or a community space.

“Home Grown Gardens provides an inspiring, hands-on, regenerative education experience that truly connects kids to the Earth and one another. Their interactive programs makes sustainability tangible and empower young people to understand where their food comes from and how they can be thoughtful stewards of the planet, while fueling their bodies with nature’s best. Teacher Justine is a treasure.”

"Here at Wagon Wheel School Malibu we have had the pleasure of Home Grown Gardens teaching our students for the past 10 years. They have become an invaluable part of our curriculum. Their ability to engage young children through hands-on gardening experiences is exceptional. Our children learn to plant, nurture and harvest. They develop patience, responsibility, teamwork, and a genuine appreciation of nature. Over the years we’ve experienced firsthand the lasting impact this program has on our children. Home Grown Gardens is more than an enrichment activity, they are trusted teachers, fostering curiosity, confidence, and joyful learning."

For more than a decade, Homegrown Gardens LA has been such a special part of our preschool community. What started as a simple garden has blossomed into a truly magical edible space where our children can dig, plant, taste, and discover.
Their garden teachers bring so much warmth and enthusiasm to every lesson. They don’t just teach about soil, seeds, sprouts, and composting — they spark curiosity and joy. Watching our students get their hands in the dirt, proudly harvest what they’ve grown, and connect with nature in such a meaningful way has been incredible.
We feel so grateful for this program and the care, creativity, and heart they pour into it.
Because the children grow the food themselves, they eagerly taste and enjoy vegetables they might never have tried otherwise. It’s become an irreplaceable part of our school experience, and we truly couldn’t ask for more.
